Link brushed himself off quickly and smiled at her inquiries about what sort of things he might find at the drug store. If she could have seen his eyes, she would have noticed they had swelled to an abnormally childish size. Nonetheless, his hair had taken care of that part of the theatrics. "Oh, magical things," he told her, "Like the little shrooms in Mario? You can find all sorts of things."
She had pulled her hand away from him, but she had also asked him where he was going. He weighed the situation for a moment. There was no reason for Keela to be standing here picking on him if she had someone to meet or somewhere to go. Link wasn't worth that sort of time, at least not to someone who is barely an acquaintance.
This seemed to be reason enough for him to grasp her hand back in his own and move in the general direction of the Duane Reade that was over a ways to the right and down a floor. "To the market!" he exclaimed, rather loudly, as he began this endeavor.

"Magical things?" Keela asked, though it wasn't really a question she wanted an answer for. The girl shook her slowly. How old was this guy? And Mario?? Keela remember when she used to play Mario when she was six. But quickly left it behind when she was Jr. high. She was thinking about this when she felt a tug on her arm, and for a second she lost her balance. "Where is the market, anyways?" she asked after getting her balance back.

He was seriously starting to freak her out, he knew.
The Mario thing was the first time he'd explained any of the things he was talking about since he'd sat down on the floor. Keela seemed perplexed, and understandably, Link's video game obsession was not something you heard about every day. As far as he was concerned though, Mario was a classic, and was his way of linking (heh!) to the outside, not so fanatical world.
Link held steadfastly to her hand as he walked diligently down towards the escalator. "Bottom floor, this wing," he said simply, vaguely amused by the simplicity of what he'd just said. It wasn't every day someone besides him would understand a word he was talking about.
As the pair of teenagers approached the escalator, it was time for Link to do that thing where he doesn't stand anymore. He released her hand and plopped right down onto the moving staircase, looking around and shooting glances at anyone who seemed to think this was strange.

Wing? Keela blinked. "I didn't know malls had wings," Keela said, as they step onto the escalator. Once Link had let go of her hand and sat down, she crossed her arm, again, and walked a few steps below Link and turn sideways she she could face both Link and the coming floor. As she watched Link sit on the steps of the escalator she slightly shook her head again. "Do you like laying and sitting in funny places?" she asked him.

Keela didn't know malls had wings. For his use of the other definition of wing, Link allotted himself another point on his mental scoreboard, tying them up nicely. "A wing... noun, an annex, a part of a building extending from the center," he explained definitively. She then inquired to his apparent habit of sitting and laying in funny places.
"Really?" he said, "You think floors and escalators are funny? I could imagine much more amusing places. Let's see... porta-potties, the grand canyon, Charon." His emphasis was placed on Pluto's moon like it was the punchline of sorts.
They reached the bottom of the escalator at this moment, and he stood up not a moment too soon before getting his pants stuck in the mechanics of it. After taking another small moment to dust himself off, he marked his peripherals and took a sharp left, nearly stumbling into the girl he'd been confusing the hell out of for the past fifteen minutes or so.

Keela rolled her eyes, before looking back at Link. "No, it's just that you don't see many people sitting in the middle of the floor in a mall, and you also don't see many people sitting on escalators," she said, stepping of the escalator. She turned to face Link again, only for him to stumbled into her. She took a step back and bit her lip, looking down at the floor. "You O.K?" she asked, still looking down.

Was that what he thought it was? His vision was a tad blurry due to the craning of his neck necessary to see Keela's face while talking to her. A roll of the eye, perhaps? Yes! Advantage to the home team! Score of this witty dialogue rested at 3-2, and the crowd goes wild. After a brief victory scene on the inside of his skull, Link moved on from the topic of just how strange he was. Mr. Wallace played that part of him up all too well.
He had knocked into her slightly, and in a brief moment of panic wondered if everything would be okay with, you know, the life that was festering inside her stomach. She didn't seem too concerned though, and he trusted she knew how much clumsiness she could take better than he did. Keela had even asked if he was alright. Irrational moment of fear... he was glad that was over.
"Uh-huh."
He flashed her a thumbs up and a grin as the floor turned to generic grey carpet and they entered Duane Reade. Link's eyes lit up with the new fluorescent lighting. He was like a little kid in a candy store... only he was a teenager in a drug store. How's that for a tongue-in-cheek analogy? Bemused by his musings, he headed toward the back of the store, checking over his shoulder to make sure Keela hadn't found someone more interesting or less eccentric to follow around.

Looking away from the floor, Keela saw Link gave her thumbs up and a grin, and nodded slightly and smiled. "That's good," she said, turning to follow him. Her head turned this way and that, looking around the store. "So, what are you planning to get, if you're getting anything, that is," Keela asked, now walking beside Link. She reached into her pant pocket, making sure her money was still there. It was. Again, she looked around the store, wondering if she could buy some of her needed stuff here.

She was right beside him now, eliminating the need to look behind him to check for her. They passed the second part of the aisle, feminine products and "family planning." Link stopped and looked around him. Condoms, tampons, pregnancy tests, birth control, dental dams. Jesus Christmas, if this didn't send his mind into overdrive he wasn't sure what would. He was at once scared and fascinated, suppressing a scream and a giggling fit.
The resulting contortion in his face could only have been amusing to witness. Still, he swallowed hard and walked to the end of the aisle to where the refrigerators are. Spotting a silver can he knew all too well, he opened the door and plunged his face into the icy coldness for a few seconds. "Energy," he finally replied to Keela's misworded question of what he was planning to get.

As they walked in the feminine products and 'family planning' aisle, Keela bit her lip. She knew it was only time until people realize she was pregnant, she was starting to show, anyways. Still being in this aisle made her think about how she got pregnant and her baby's father. A low sigh come from her mouth as she follow Link to the refrigerators at the end of the aisle. She watched him get something, then rolled her eyes again as she heard him speak. What kind of energy?" she asked him. She had decided against buying any of her needed stuff here.
